Israel's Miraculous Story ...... Happy Birthday, Israel. Click on the button to watch a short video about how it came to be.
During the Exodus from Egypt….. the Sages determined that the 10th of this first month of Aviv was a Shabbat. The Torah instructions: on the 10th day of the first month…. Take a lamb into your house and inspect it for any blemishes. There can’t be any blemishes. This male lamb must be perfect.
But, the Children of Israel, living in Egypt were a little nervous. You see… the lamb was one of the Egyptian gods! How’s your faith now? Do you think they were a little nervous… as they prepared to sacrifice one of Egypt’s gods? It would be the last sacrifice in Egypt.
Yet they Obeyed…. They Believed the instructions…. They Followed the way being established for them… The goal: to get out of there and to enter into a new way of life.
The Nation of Israel… One Nation belonging to the One true God… with Liberty and with Justice for all… was in the birth process.
He was birthing them to be the First Nation who would believe and obey Him. He was calling them to be a nation of priests unto Himself…. A nation who would represent the One True God to the rest of the nations. IF they could believe Him to obey... It was the start of something new.
Fast forward 1500 years….. to the time of Yeshua’s Passover Week. In fact, THIS SHABBAT ….ON THE 10 OF AVIV….. The crowds following Yeshua up to Jerusalem have arrived in the city to observe the appointed time. They have been following Him for many weeks. After witnessing deliverance from demons and healing from sicknesses and miraculous restorations of sight and witnessing lepers cleansed and food provided, …… they were wanting and willing to pronounce Him as the King of Israel. “Hosanna Hosanna” they called out as He rode into Jerusalem riding on a donkey, the foal of a donkey just as prophesied in Zachariah 9:9. The people were waving palm branches and as they shouted they also knelt and placed their palm branch on the ground for their King to walk on. Yes, there was great reason to celebrate! The Lamb of God had entered the House. He spent the next four days being inspected by the leadership, teaching the people, eating with friends and preparing His disciples for what was about to happen.
The whole world was about to see what God would do in this city where He had chosen to put His name. It would be recorded for the future generations to discover.
The Showdown in Jerusalem had begun.
