The beauty and meaning of the Tabernacle are near and dear to my heart. If we, as Israel, do not know, do not care, and do not love what is in it, how it was made, and what it means to the Kingdom we miss what the Father has for us. The Tabernacle is the closest representation of the relationship that man had in the Garden with Yah. It is a small and intimate place....easier for us to relate to than the light years of distance in the universe. What is important to make note of is that one could not enter this space unless as a priest. Considering that Israel was to be a nation of priests unto Him should catch our attention and cause us to seek the meaning of that statement.
Exodus 19:6 I Peter 2:9
Yah said that if we seek Him with all our hearts we would find Him. Jeremiah 29:13 Well, here He is dwelling in the midst of His people. Where do we seek Him today but in the pages of His Word? He goes to great lengths to explain the building of the Tabernacle: the blueprints, the materials list, the foundation, the walls, the curtains, the interior placement of the furniture, the required components for the Lamp, the Table of Presence, the Alter of Incense and the Ark of Testimony.
We cannot and must not hurry through this process. Just because we know what they are made of and where they are placed and how big they are is not the point; that is the form vs. function principle. For those who study the language of Hebrew, they understand that the function of an object can be more important than its form. A close study of the building of the Tabernacle shows that Moses wrote over twelve chapters describing this tent. That alone should be a clue as to how important this place is. Once completed, no one could go in unless it was Moses himself or a priest. No ordinary Israelite got past the brazen altar in the courtyard. No ordinary Israelite ever saw the ark, the menorah, the table, nor the altar of incense - as they were hidden under materials of blue or red or white - as they traveled through the wilderness.
The searching, we believers do in an effort to find Him these days, is in the pages of our Bible and in the depths of our hearts as we call out to Him. Many people know facts ‘about’ Him, or interesting stories ‘of’ Him, but few take the time to really get to ‘know’ Him. Knowing Him takes time. Just as those who are married know much more about their spouse after 20, 30, 50 years of marriage than they did after having gone on a few dates with them. Did they know them?....yes but not in such a way as they did after spending copious amounts of time with them.
Knowing the function of the Tabernacle including the furniture, the sacrifices, the duties of the priest, moving procedures is all about getting to know our Creator. Is that not the object of Torah?
