Romans 12: 17 Never pay back evil for evil. Do things in such a way that everyone can see you are honest clear through. 18 Don’t quarrel with anyone. Be at peace with everyone, just as much as possible.
James 1:19 Dear brothers, don’t ever forget that it is best to listen much, speak little, and not become angry; 20 for anger doesn’t make us good, as God demands that we must be.
Romans 5:1 So now, since we have been made right in God’s sight by faith in his promises, we can have real peace with him because of what Jesus Christ our Lord has done for us. 2 For because of our faith, he has brought us into this place of highest privilege where we now stand, and we confidently and joyfully look forward to actually becoming all that God has had in mind for us to be.
Paul and James remind us to be quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow in becoming angry. That is good advice. Being angry is not becoming to anyone. If it is possible to live at peace….as far as it depends on you…. then do it. At times in your life there will those who are determined to oppose you…. without good cause. At times, you have made a contribution to the dust-up. Words are what we use to communicate with and at times they can get away from us. Do what you can to restore relationships. If you try and it doesn’t happen, then God will not hold you responsible.
Forgive, move on, and don’t despair. We live in a fallen world and there will always be loose ends. We will always be rearranging the cards that we have been dealt. Play them wisely. Beloved, we will be tested. We would do well to remember that. If we are wise, we will let the Holy Spirit, who dwells in us, to pass the test for us. Selah…..
