Ratification of the Covenant at Mt. Sinai
Only 18 verses..... but so much information is packed in Chapter 24.
Thus far, the Children of Israel have only heard the Ten Commandments from the Mountain. They didn't want to hear the voice of God again, lest they die..... (so they said)! The new nation agreed that from now on, Moses will go and talk to God....and they would do whatever God says. Moses goes up the mountain for the third time and God delivers to him the plan for how they are going to live with God as their leader. It is on the mountain that God delivers the first of the proto Hebrew aleph-bet to Moses. It is as though Moses goes to Hebrew School.... as he writes the words of God's ordinances.
We are all familiar with what Christianity calls The Last Supper. But are we familiar with The First Supper?
Two sacrifices are introduced this week... and a blood covenant is made. Did you know that there were only two sacrifices before the Levitical system was introduced? We'll talk about it.
