Lev. 23:24 "Speak to the children of Israel, saying: 'In the seventh month, on the first day of the month, you shall have a Sabbath-rest, a memorial of blowing of trumpets, a holy convocation. 25 You shall do no customary work on it; and you shall offer an offering made by fire to YHVH.' "
What are we supposed to REMEMBER on this day of blowing the ram’s horn? I went looking for the first mention of a ram’s horn in Scripture for a clue for this day of ‘memorial’. I wound up at the directive by YHVH - to a father, Abraham, to take his only son to a mountain in the land of Moriah to offer that only son as a burnt offering as recorded in Genesis22. Abraham was quick to believe and obey telling his two servants that he and the boy would return and they should remain at the base of the mountain with the donkey. This father believed and obeyed God and took his son to the designated place.
The son saw the wood and the fire and asked, “Where is the lamb for the burnt offering?” The father answered, “YHVH will provide Himself the lamb.” As the father raised the weapon to slay his only son for the burnt offering, the Messenger of YHVH stopped him saying, “Abraham, do not lay your hand on the lad, or do anything to him; for now I know that you fear God since you have not withheld your son, your only son from Me.” Looking up the father saw a ram caught in the thicket by its horn; this ram was provided for the burnt offering.
The son lived and the father was promised that because of his obedience and belief he would be blessed as would his descendants. What a set-up! Abraham and Isaac had just laid the ‘track’ for the Messiah to come to the rescue of all mankind. Interesting to note that Abraham told his servants that he and the lad would return, but it is recorded that only Abraham returned. I take that as a clue that this father and son (Abraham and Isaac) were echad (uniquely one).
It doesn’t take long to connect that event with another Father who sent His only Son to the same mountain to be the sacrifice Lamb for you and me. This Father and Son were also echad (uniquely one) and it is about time for the return of the Son - Yahshua. This time it is the only Son of the Father that is coming back...not on a donkey but on a white horse. Aren’t you glad that all the clues are there in the Torah for us to search for Him?
Yom Teruah...the Day of Trumpets also commemorates the coronation of the king and the judgment of nations. How does one become a citizen of this King’s realm? Through repentance....more than saying, “I’m sorry” ...or... “Forgive me”. Repentance or Teshuva is turning back to answer Him; telling Him that you hear His voice and will walk in His ways..... (Not your ways).
Get ready.....it is here and judgment is happening all around us. Will your name be found in the book the Righteous (those who believe AND obey)? It is time to make a decision to turn to Him. I pray that many will search for Him. He will be found by those who search for Him with all of their hearts. Now that is something to REMEMBER and to blow your shofar about!
